This is not a Nicholson file. It comes is generic packaging with a big old made in China sticker on it.

This is a medium-coarse file, which is what the word "bastard" means in the context of files. It seems well made and it cuts well. It's kind of sneaky and sleazy of the sellers to put "for Nicholson Metal Files" in the title; they just wanted to get the word "Nicholson" in there since that's a well-respected brand name for files. If I were buying a file, that bit of deception would be enough to make me purchase from someone else, but I got this one for free through the Vine program.

I ordered this file because my older, smaller flat single cut file isn’t as sharp as it has been. This is a big file, measuring 14 ¼” long and just over an inch wide. It’s double cut, and is pretty coarse. It cuts steel much faster than my old one. It leaves a reasonably good finish too. It will be good for shaping and refining various items I fabricate, as well as keeping gardening tools sharp. Given its size, I’ll probably make or buy a handle for it.
