This is definitely one of the best locks I’ve ever owned. Even with a ton of use it lasts a lot longer than other name brand ones.We use it on the front gate of an 8 person apartment complex so it’s opened and closed at least 20 times a day and we can still get a year or two out of it.One thing worth noting is there is a little piece of metal inside… I forget what it’s called, but its job is to prevent the key from coming out while the lock is open. This can definitely come in handy so you don’t leave your keys in the lock, but if you’re using it a lot or other people are also using it I’ve found that the locks lifespan takes a dramatic nosedive unless you remove this piece. My guess is because people are tugging on it all the time. Sometimes even after just a few weeks the lock will start malfunctioning. It’s very easy to remove. There are a few videos on YouTube if you need help, but if you’re noticing this lock isn’t lasting long I recommend that as a quick and easy solution.

This is a very nice heavy lock. it is machined well with no sharp edges and functions very well. The lock and unlock action feels buttery smooth (especially compared to your standard master lock, etc). The real standout feature though is the ability to re-key this lock to match other locks you already own; This specific model comes with a Schlage core, which allowed me to re-key it to use my existing house keys. The cylinder is very well designed and allows you to change out the bottom pins without removing the top pins and springs, this makes it really quick and easy to re-key. The only tool you need a simple #2 Phillips screwdriver.i don't think people should be leaving negative reviews because they didn't know what they were buying; and from what I read they had nothing negative to say about the lock itself. I probably wouldn't recommend buying this if you don't know (or are unwilling to learn) how to re-key a lock. It is not difficult, and it's a very good skill to learn; Youtube will teach you everything you need to know. You can buy a simple Schlage re-key kit with the pins you need from Amazon or elsewhere for about what a locksmith would charge you to re-key a single lock and that kit will last you a lifetime.Bottom line... This is a great quality lock for a good price if you know (or are wiling to take a few minutes to learn) how to re-key a lock.

My house, like many, has door locks keyed to the Schlage "C" keyway. I have several of these padlocks that I've keyed to match now. Note that these are keyed "0-bitted" (to a blank key), so you do need to rekey them when you get them. The lock is very well-made and has a nice heft to it. Where it really shines, though, is the thoughtful design. The core comes out with a single screw, which is fairly common. What isn't common is the "pinning window". Basically, you press a retainer and turn the key far enough and you can access the pins directly. No plug follower needed. This makes these locks extremely easy to rekey. You'll just need a cheap pinning kit and you're good to go and can have the job done in a couple minutes.Additionally, the "C6A" (chamber 6 access) feature is awesome. My house is keyed to 6 pins (common in commercial, not common for residential), so all I need to do is drop in the included top pin and spring included with the lock and slide the cap over it to convert this to a 6-pin lock.It also has a "Z-bar" feature that can convert the lock back and forth from being key retaining. I don't use this, but it could be helpful in some applications. If you don't have a Schlage "C" keyway, Abus makes this same lock with different cylinders - Kwikset, Arrow, Weiser, Yale Para, Schlage Everest, Sargent LA-LC, Corbin-Russwin L4/D/59/60, Schlage Composite C-K, and Master. They really covered their bases for common keyways. If you have something unusual that you can get in a KIK (key in knob/lever) cylinder, Abus even offers an adapter kit for that.I can't recommend these enough - they're well made, perfectly designed, and priced right.

As a retired locksmith, I was impressed with the quality of this rekeyable padlock and pleased with the size, which is exactly what I was looking for. The lock comes "zero-bitted" to a Schlage "C" keyblank which means it will operate using an uncut keyblank, so it must be rekeyed before you can use it. If you have your own pin kit, tools, and skills to rekey a standard Schlage cylinder, you'll find this padlock very similar and easy to rekey. For non-locksmith folks who have never rekeyed a lock before, you will likely need to take this lock to a locksmith to have it rekeyed to match your Schlage key. This lock works perfectly for my chain link gate, and now I have one less key to carry around. I appreciate the removable key-retention bar on the tail of the cylinder, which I removed when I rekeyed the cylinder. If you don't remove it, you won't be able to remove your key unless the padlock hasp is closed and locked. Some people like this feature, but I find it to be a nuisance, so I am happy they give me the option. This padlock is certainly more costly than a non-rekeyable padlock, but I really like the convenience of using my house key to unlock it. If you are looking for a padlock you can key up to match your Schlage key (C keyway) this is a great little padlock.

I recently purchased the Abus padlock and I am thoroughly impressed with its features and performance. The optional key retaining feature with the z-bar is a great addition, making it more secure and convenient to use. The z-bar can easily be removed if you want to disable the key retaining feature, making it versatile and customizable to meet your specific needs. The Abus padlock is also very easy to disassemble, although you need to be aware of the blue loctite on the cylinder disassembly screw. Despite this, I found it easy to re-key and customize the padlock to my needs. The spool driver pins add an extra layer of pick resistance, giving me peace of mind knowing my belongings are protected. In conclusion, the Abus padlock is a great value for the money and offers a high level of security, convenience, and versatility. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and effective padlock and has the ability to re-key a Schlage lock.

This lock is intended for someone who knows how to pin the core and cut their own key, or who is willing to take it to a locksmith. The extra driver spool pin and spring that people are mentioning is so that the lock can be keyed as either a 5 or 6 pin lock. If you want it to be 6 pinned, then use the supplied pin and spring. Takes all of about 5 min to pin. This lock is also available in a KW1 key way.

I bought this second hand from amazon so I didn't expect it to come with the extra advertised pin and spring, but the lock also showed up without a key and so is unusable. Bit disappointed that the best that can be done is to ship it back and wait for another one, bit of a time waste.

The lock comes with one blank key and a pin and spring - the implication being you are supposed to key the lock yourself. The pictures shown with the lock do not show you the blank key or the loose pin and spring items that come with it. So this is a fail due to my own ignorance, but a fair description of the product should have shown the blank key and loose items.
