BAM CABINE 4012SGC TENOR LIGHT GREY

As a full-time touring sax player, I've been using flight cases by another well-known company for decades and have been very happy with those cases. However, a recent negative experience with Australian airline, QANTAS, resulted in me trying to find a slightly smaller and lighter case for my tenor sax. I bought a black BAM Cabine case from Amazon AU and whilst its size, weight and apparent internal protection of the instrument are all great, the exterior finish will mark/scratch/scuff with just the smallest degree of contact with almost any other material. As mentioned above, I've been using cases by another company for a long time and despite the rigours of touring conditions, those cases show very, very few marks/scratches/scuffs at all...and the vast majority of these will easily buff out. However, the black BAM Cabine case shows more marks after just one short 4-day tour (yes, just 4 DAYS!) than years (yes, YEARS!) of using the other cases.I fully realise that the primary purpose of a flight case is to protect the instrument inside, and I believe the BAM Cabine case will fulfil this role. However, I don't think it is much to ask of a manufacturer that the case exterior be as robust as possible in order to withstand real-world touring conditions....which, after all, is the purpose of the Cabine case! i.e. airline "cabin". It is supposed to be a case for the touring sax player, not for a hobbyist sax player who never takes their horn out of the house. It seems to me that BAM has been more focused on creating an internally-protective case with a fancy showroom exterior rather than an all-round high-quality, durable case for working sax players. As such, working sax players will probably be better off checking out options by other manufacturers with good track records. I certainly won't be buying another BAM case unless the outside is as durable as the inside. After just 4 days, my opinion is that the BAM Cabine case is primarily a show pony, not a workhorse.
