it's a lot smaller than my big buttset. and does most of the basics, so great for a small kit or backup

This is not bad for a $20.00 test phone. Worked right out of the box. Smart enough to capture and display the calling telephone number and also updates the internal time! Audio quality is acceptable. Has a Last # redial. Would I buy another? Probably not! This is a small plastic device that will not survive in a typical tool box. There is a short coil-cord hardwired into the unit - made from very small gauge wire. Do not think it will stand up to much usage. The coil cord has a RJ11 Plug on the end that will plug into any single line telephone jack. There is a small RJ-11 to RJ-11 adapter to allow the use of a short cord with two alligator clips on one end and a RJ-11 plug on the other end. There is a second short cord with an RJ-11 plug on one end and a "test clip" like I have never seen before - pictured.

The phone portion is good. However the attachments(RJ11 and alligator clips) break very easily. I'm an electronics/networking tech and I can say if you use this on a daily, just get a better quality one. You can feel the Chinese in the build quality. (Take it from someone who bought two)

I'm a little bit of a brand snob and for months was eyeing up a Fluke Buttset. I rarely need to use this kind of tool so was hesitant to pay hundred of dollars for the Fluke. I settled on this and its been great for the price. It has a display for showing the number your dialing and has worked great the handful of times I've needed to use it to prove elevator phone lines. Saved myself hundreds. I would add that if you do this kind of work often, the Fluke units are hands down the way to go. I couldn't justify the price of them due to rarity of needing to use one. Highly recommend this cheap unit for infrequent use

Very basic and cheap but does the job of testing an analog phone line. If you would be using this every day, don't buy this item, it will break in no time. But if you are looking for a compact device to test a phone line once in a while, it works very well. Caller ID display works correctly but shows only the caller number, not the name. Some of the small characters on the LED display are in Chinese only but it is easy to figure out what they mean. It comes with an alligator clip adaptor which is useful for testing inside residential junction boxes. It also comes with what looks like a 66-block adaptor which is common in old commercial distribution panel.

Very basic buttset, but do the job like a back up tool. Not for a day to day tool. Just like a back up. No speaker.
