Even though this mechanical White-Rodgers is now made in China, it is still far better than the mechanical kind they sell at the local air conditioning supply place, those cheap ones are also made in China, but are very poorly made, the cheap one I had that was bought at the air conditioning store recently only lasted about a month. Regrettably, they don't carry these White-Rodgers anymore at the air conditioning supply place, that's why I had to order it via the Internet. I expect this one to last many years, the previous White-Rodgers I had, which looked exactly like this, but had mercury, lasted about 23 years. This White-Rodgers has a 5-year guarantee, the cheap one that lasted about a month had no guarantee. I don't like digital thermostats, I like these traditional mechanical ones much better. You can't go wrong with White-Rodgers thermostats, in my opinion, based on experience.

We have two LP gas fireplaces in our home. One was manually operated and the other had a remote thermostat. Because we had poor results from the wireless unit we did not get the same with the second unit. Problem solved with these thermostats. A simple two wire hookup, they turn the fireplaces on and off at temperatures we like as we choose.

This should have been straight forward, but it was not. It was a bit confusing to install (by a professional!), and now the thermostat and/or setting mechanisms don't work together - when it is set at 80, the thermostat might reach 70, and I'm not even sure that's accurate.Overall, save your money and pick something else.Oh, and the 'extended warrantee' was impossible to activate online, and the person on the phone - who spoke very little English at all - was not helpful either. Email sent me back to both.
