I bought a Primefit 6 gallon compressor from Costco and after about 8 years it started making a funny noise and wouldn't fill past about 30PSI. I was all set to trash it and buy a new one since I know nothing about how these work but as a last resort before spending the money I removed the cylinder head and found a couple pieces of flat metal loose inside. I eventually figured out that it was a broken reed valve and as a quick and dirty fix I fashioned a replacement out of some sheet metal I had and it worked! It took longer to fill than before but it worked and saved me $300 on a new compressor. I then looked around and found these reed valves and the dimensions matched mine so I got them and now the compressor fills much faster than with my kludge fix. A good deal for the $12.33 I paid.

The price is pretty good for these. It's really a simple thing. You just unbolt your head and disconnect your airline and then make sure that your new reads are seated in. I am a mechanic but I have never worked on a compressor before my life. First try working like a charm! I'm sure they will go bad again. But this is pretty much a wearing part on the compressor they should just put it in the manual if it's not in there. You might want to buy a few sets.

My compressor works as good as new. I would add though that there's a little trick to getting them to stay in the right position during installation with a small dab of grease or Vaseline. Might make installation easier if they included that hint.

My 21 Gal Central Pneumatics from HF would not build pressure. Took off the 4 bolts on top of compressor, (and disconnect feed to tank), to find that one of the reed valves had broken (see pic).Replaced both of them with these new ones, and back to full pressure. Used a tiny dab of grease to hold the top reed in place while reassembling. Repair time: 15-20 min total going slowly.
