When two vehicle batteries are wired in parallel they have a tendency to charge and drain one another. Installing a relay that disconnects the batteries when the engine is off prevents excessive wear and lengthens the life of the batteries. Don't let the low price fool you. This item is the best. It performs as stated for a very low price. No keys, switches, remote-controls; install it and no worries. I work for a university that sets up and distributes vehicles with complete mobile living / working equipment. Dual deep-cycle batteries are the primary solution to consistent power, especially during short, low-speed charging cycles. This regulator conserves power and fuel. It is positioned behind the engine battery. I also have a remote isolator in front of the engine battery to prevent theft and manage its power.

I needed to ad a winch to my Atv. I was concerned that if I used the main battery I could draw it down to far and damage it. I didn’t want to need to charge a separate battery so I added this extra relay to keep the auxiliary battery charged and not risk back feeding the main battery and draining it accidentally. Works like a champ.
