First, I’ve always wondered what AKS people have in their kit that uses 1/4-20 with Arri locating pins. In my opinion, those 1/4-20 holes are worthless. I drilled and tapped mine out to 3/8-16. The locating pins on the block itself are REALLY tight going into an Arri top handle but it’ll go. The screwdriver it comes with is an absolute joke. The shaft spins in the handle with minimal torque. A flat head crew is also a poor choice. The block comes apart easy enough to swap the screw for one that uses an Allen key. Although the price is appealing, after all the time, money, and energy to modify this thing to make it function appropriately, you might as well spend the money on one that comes like that out of the box.

I bought this to add to my Kondor Blue trigger top handle that I use with my R5C cage, also Kondor Blue. This is the only ARRI locating pin cube I could find that has an extra extension at the base where it attaches with the locating pins. This allows me to mount it to the front of the handle, mount a Kondor Blue QR plate set to it, and still have space to use the front cold shoe on that handle. The shoe would be blocked if I used one of the shorter and more symmetrical ARRI locating cubes, including the ones made by Kondor Blue and Smallrig. The first time I used this cube in production I found out that the amount of torque necessary to tighten the screw inside it really can't be accomplished through the small access hole that allows tightening of the flat-headed screw that holds the cube on. No screwdriver with a large enough handle to tighten it all the way down will fit into that hole. The supplied screwdriver definitely does not have a large enough handle. Near the end of the first day I used it, the cube started to wobble. On the second day it got bad enough that I had to use another mount point instead. Fortunately the extension on this cube can be removed. I took it off and replaced the flat-headed screw with one that has an allen key. I used an extra 3/8" screw that came with the Kondor Blue QR plate set. Then I reconnected the extension and put it back on the top handle. An allen key with a sturdy handle easily fits into the access hole. I was able to tighten it fully and securely. Now it works great!

This accessory mount expansion is really useful, one of its kind. It is made for the ARRI locating hole, a 5-in-1 adapter. On its top, there are 8 small holes, so you can rotate your accessories securely at any angle. Altogether, there are three 3/8-16 and two 1/4-20 thread holes on its sides. I believe you can mount all your accessories in any way you need by using this adapter. I have used small L-shaped brackets to accomplish part of this kind of mounting function. This is a great addition to my toolbox for video making. Job well done.
