I recently purchased the SmallRig Camera Cage for my Canon R5, and I am extremely impressed with its quality and functionality. This cage is a must-have for anyone serious about film and video making.Firstly, the build quality is outstanding. Made from durable aluminum alloy, it provides excellent protection for my camera without adding significant weight. The design is well thought out, with precise cutouts that allow easy access to all buttons, ports, and the battery compartment. It fits my Canon R5 perfectly, even with the BG-R10 battery grip attached. One of the standout features is the multiple mounting points, including the integrated cold shoe mount. This makes it incredibly versatile, allowing me to attach a variety of accessories such as microphones, lights, and monitors. The cage also has NATO rails and ARRI-style mounts, which are fantastic for securely attaching additional gear. The ergonomics of the cage are excellent as well. It provides a comfortable grip, which is essential for handheld shooting. The cage’s design helps distribute the camera’s weight more evenly, reducing fatigue during long shooting sessions.Installation was straightforward and took just a few minutes. The included screws and Allen wrench made it easy to secure the cage to my camera.Overall, the SmallRig Camera Cage for Canon R5/R6 with BG-R10 Battery Grip is a top-notch accessory that enhances the functionality and protection of my camera. It’s a worthwhile investment for anyone looking to improve their filmmaking setup. Highly recommended!

This cage is far more robust than I anticipated. I had the Black Mamba cage for the Canon R5 and was satisfied, but I use a battery grip when shooting stills and that cage does not accommodate obviously. I wasn't certain if the contact points and method of securing the camera to this new cage would be enough with a full cinema rig build, but to my surprise it REALLY secures well to the camera and can take a full rig setup easily with no bending or warping or weakness thus far. If you are looking for a Canon R5 cage to fit the R5 with battery grip this is your solution.

I love that Smallrig is constantly coming up with great designs!! This one has little tabs that bolt through the holes where the camera strap goes so that the cage won't have any play or wiggle itself loose. It also has a super handy tripod+allen key that magnetizes underneath the cage.

Perfect fit, looks sharp and great protection. Unfortunately doesn't have vertical mount but other than that, everything I need

I previously had the Black Mamba cage that was released for non-battery grip bodies. I used it with the R6 when I was putting it on the gimbal mostly. It was a nice cage but my complaint was it wasn't all that rigid on the top. It would flex a bit when you add a top handle and monitor etc to work off gimbal/tripod. This cage has fixed that with some integrated metal pieces. They lock it down much better as they Mamba did not have those. There are two small inserts that are on each side that go into the lanyard slot on the body. They are removed by Allen head screw when placing the camera body in the cage. You insert them back in and tighten them down. Its a great design and works well to lock the camera in place better. One thing missing on this one versus the black mamba is there was an indent that you could tighten on the bottom. just like a little stud aside from the 1/4 - 20 tripod hole. That was just another nice point to keep the body from wiggling or twisting within the cage. There are several mounting points. I like to load my rig up with nato rails that smallrig also sells.. This enables me to use quick nato type top handles and other attachments for my monitor or mic. Its rigid and so much faster than unscrewing stuff. I have in the picture if you are wondering an arri rosette on the side with a Wooden Camera side handle. Small Rig also sells a similar wooden grip. So essentially this cage is everything I was hoping for and I am happy with my purchase. Now my only gripe is that this Canon R5C still has a micro HDMI port but that's not SmallRigs fault.
