Same as the under snow knee pad, has same kind of padding but it doesn't really absorbed much when impact.

Bought these for a friend, found them on sale thankfully. We have been searching for a good pair of skate pants with good padding for quite some time, buying several different pairs and ultimately being unsatisfied. These have padding in all the right places. He has taken a couple slams since purchase and these have minimized the impact and trauma to his hip, which is what we were looking for. They can be washed on a gental cycle and dryed on a delicate cycle, though I normally try to hang dry them so the pads don't fall apart over time. You don't have to remove the pads to wash them, which is a huge plus for me. Was fighting with other shorts trying to remove pads and it was always stressful. Thankfully not these. I recommend these shorts to beginners and advanced skaters that don't want their hips torn up on a slam. Good for concrete bowls and vert.

too longo for me, but the size on the waist is ok. The fabric is light and does not heat up

I've been skateboarding for 40 years, ramps and transition stuff. So, when a recent spinal column injury (due to disease, not sports) set me back to near-beginner levels of skill, I knew I needed some serious protection. I pulled out all my old Rector pads but realized I needed some butt/hip padding to feel safe and confident as I relearn how to skate. (yes, this is as sad and frustrating as it sounds) I ordered these in hopes they'd replicate my old Mad Rats skate shorts - but alas no luck. The padding is woefully thin and (at least on me) is oriented in all the wrong spots to offer real protection. There is actually a gap oven my hip bone - the most vulnerable spot when falling off a skateboard. Instead there's tons of padding in spots I can't even imagine hitting as a new or unskilled skater. (Sure - you might slam onto a rail as you try a kick-flip to boardslide down a flight of stairs - but that's not the target market - I'm sure.) I am returning these and trying a cheaper pair in hopes the orientation of the padding is better. Also - they are VERY expensive for what they are.Not recommended.UPDATE: Got a pair of the bodyprox pants instead, half the price and almost 2x better. The bodyprox padding is 50% thicker (6mm vs 4mm for the 888 pants) and tailbone pad is about 30% larger. In addition, there are much smaller gaps between pads in the bodyprox shorts. Save your $$$ and avoid theses pants.

More of a hip saver than a bum saver. It gives me a bit of extra confidence when trying a new trick that failure won't be quite as painful.
