Your cart is empty.About Product: The overall cutterhead diameter is 0. 088" (roughly 1/16 in) smaller than the original OEM head to allow for installation without removing the carbide inserts. The ORIGINAL SHEar & heLIX and spiral cutter non-grind design. Woodworkers know that a shear cut is far better than a straight cut. You also know that a stagger cut is much better than just a single straight knife and is a lot easier on your dust collection system. If you just happen to plane a nail or staple, it is not necessary to replace expensive knives the full length of your planer head. Replace 2 or 3 small inexpensive knives and you are ready to go. The SHELEX is extremely quiet compared to other blades.

Sure, it's convenient to install the cutterhead all-up, with the inserts in place.. So what? Installing 40 inserts doesn't take all that long, or that much effort.What the reduced diameter does is make the depth-of-cut indicator useless, since it can't be adjusted (unlike the thickness gauge and stop, which can).Even worse, the reduced diameter forces you to lower the head to the point where you have to force it down to make the cut, past where it would normally sit, basically clamping the stock and creating end-snipe where none existed before.And the insert seats are finicky beyond belief. Inserts don't pocket securely or even semi-automatically, as they do in some other cutterheads, and even the slightest misalignment or speck will leave grooves or ridges in your stock.I've pulled mine and will be returning it for a refund.

Shelix cutter head on my DW735 planer woork great. Less noise than the original head from Dewalt. Leaves a great finish. Also fast shipping.

I like the finish this cutter leaves and the noise level, BUT being a hobby woodworker I don't put a lot of wood through my planer and yet in the past year I've replaced three broken cutters. (the good news is that I'm getting adept at making the switch) The wood I've been working with is Douglas fir, oak and alder. Nothing exceptionally hard. After the second broken cutter I asked the company for replacements and was rebuffed. So they either know they have some product defect problems or they simply don't care about customer relations.During the same time I've had a Grizzly G0656 with spiral cutter head. I admit that i've put more feet of wood through the planer than the jointer, i've never had a broken cutter on the jointer.
