I am extremely impressed with this block plane.. Like every plane, I had to do preliminary setup process when I received it (checking sole flat, sharpening blade, etc…). After the initial set up though it works great.. Awesomely Great. Surprised does not do justice. I could not believe how good this works. There’s no way I would ever pay the crazy prices for a block plane from other places when I can have this for 40 $30. It’s ridiculous.

it has rough shoes, and front-shoe's bed has some edges to file down in order to flush, after 2 hours of 120 grit sanding I am able to get the shoes 80% smooth in the middle area. If you have a belt sander you may make this tool perfect. The throat adjustment and lateral adjustment works well. The blade's steel is both flat enough and quite hard. After I horn the blade, I tested on cutting chamfers on plywood, the cut is quite clean, no tear off. Conclusion: for this price, if you have the tool to fix the rough surface, it works well.

Was very pleased with this little block plane after I tuned it up with some elbow grease. The cutter was in good shape and had the proper angle of 25 degrees but the grind was rough and unacceptable. I resharpened the blade and added a micro bevel of one degree. I use a Veritas blade sharpening guide and they work great with sandpaper or stones. I also flattened the bottom of the plane iron and also did the sides because the metal grind from the factory was not all that good. When I finished, the metal was mirror like and very nice. I tried a cut on a pine board edge and I was blown away by the awesome wood curl I got which was paper thin and continuous and the blade went through the wood like butter. The key to a block plane or any other plane is having the cutting blade razor sharp with the proper angle and having a flat plane iron. I strongly suggest investing in a blade honing guide which will allow you to get perfect blade cutting angles. Anyway, this little Stanley is an awesome little plane for the price and I recommend it.

As many others have said, some additional finishing required to make it a decent block plane. The sole needs to be levelled with sandpaper. I was kind of surprised at how long and how much elbow grease was required at 120 grit. I used a piece of marble as my levelling base. In additional the mouth needed to be filed down to remove burs and the iron needs to be sharpened. Lots of good youtube references to make the necessary upgrades. Once made, it seems like a very decent block plane.

Excelente producto, necesita un pequeño ajuste para que la cuchilla quede paralela pero nada que no se pueda arreglar. De buen tamaño y excelente funcionamiento.Recomendado

Its an okay plane. Tends to come loose often under stress. It gets the job done but with some frustration

Yep it does the job nicely. I sharpened the blade before trying it.

Better than expected, considering the price. Expect to spend a few minutes honing the iron and an hour flattening the sole. All mechanisms work well and it has a solid weight.

Great tool at a very good price. Very handy, I always reach for it. Like most affordable hand tools this one is not ready to be used right out of the box. The blade is only roughly sharpened to 25'. You will have to put the final sharpening by hand with wet stone or diamond plates and finish the sharpening by polishing it on a leather strop. This tool is an essential par of working wood by hand. Also it is a real charm to use it. In my case it is almost a ZEN experience. If this comment was useful for you, please consider clicking the like button. This really help.
Honest opinion.

Honestly I don't know what the fuss is about. People think things need to be expensive to work. This guy works great.Keep it sharp - and it will keep you happy.Flatten the sole - something you need to do with all planes and chisels.
