This is my third. I also have the guitar and banjo songbooks. So good for so many different levels of experience. Highly recommend.

Good fun. Easy to follow tabs and a wide range of tunes. Only downside s that due to having 4 parts in each tab (vocal melody, simple tab, bass and intermediate tab if my memory serves) the tabs often follow multiple pages, meaning tricky mid song page turning, where it would have easily fit in a page/2 page spread, and then a second page for intermediate version. Not a major issue, just worth knowing I guess. I have really enjoyed playing them over the festive season though!

It's not brilliant, but it's not as bad as all that, either. I'm UK-based and I recognise the majority of the tunes included (and I'm not a huge fan of Christmas, at that, so it's not as though I'm some sort of festive aficionado). I can't see any really glaring omissions, albeit there are a couple of things I would like to see included which weren't.Most of it is single line TAB/melody but there are a couple of nice chordal arrangements and harmony parts in there. Beginners to intermediate mandolinists should find entertainment enough to justify their buck. Hardened mando-monsters should probably look elsewhere (or just produce your own arrangements, if you're all that).

First off, the selection of songs in this book is disappointing. In more than half a century of Christmases I have heard a lot of Christmas carols and yet I have never heard of many of the carols in this book. There are a handful of familiar tunes, though, so the book is not completely without merit in that regard. Your own mileage may vary, since you may have heard of more or less of the songs in this book than I have. Some of the alternate rhythm options shown are melody chords and nice to have. Others are more finger picking styles that are more general accompaniment styles. I suppose both have value but I find the melody chords more appropriate for accompanying carolers. But the really big disappointment in this book is that it does not match the guitar book, in spite of the advertising otherwise. I purchased this book because my wife (learning mandolin), my son (plays guitar well), and I (learning guitar) are planning to do a surprise performance for the extended family Christmas party and I thought this book series would be perfect for that. We picked Deck the Halls as our first song. The only problem is, in the supposedly matching guitar book has Deck the Halls in key of C and this book has it in G. Scanning several other songs (I didn't do a complete comparison) between the two books and I did not find a single case where the two books had the same song in the same key - one book in D the other in G; one in F, the other in D, and so on. So much for using this series across the instruments so you can't use this book series for family jams and sing-alongs as advertised.
