As the saying goes: “It’s a Trudeau”. Other corkscrews are sold on the market that look like it, but are not as good. I know what you’re going to say. It’s only a corkscrew. No. Not true. It’s very easy to remove the cork with this Trudeau corkscrew. Mind you, there is a process to follow so as not to break the cork inside the bottle. That’s where the Trudeau 2-stage corkscrew design comes into play…

The “two stage” mechanism really works well. I have bought at last a dozen of these. They make great gifts.

Really good for the price, when its available. Comfortable in your hand, the screw part does seem to enter the cork with less turns, but I'm docking it a star because I have seen double hinged corkscrews that work better. Something about the middle hinge seems wrong. I really can't put my finger on it, and I did buy a second one, because it is a really good corkscrew.

I've struggled with so called waiter's corkscrews in the past but heard this type with the hinge is much easier to use and it is. I saw an equipment review on America's test kitchen and this one is their best buy because it works great at a very reasonable price. The corkscrew feeds in smoothly and it was so easy to use since the hinge allowed me to adjust the position after the cork was partially removed. I've used it multiple times and it works great. I love this thing!

There are some good two-stage openers out there. This is a good one, but would be great if it had an extra twist. The screw isn't quite long enough, but if you over-screw it into the cork you can get enough leverage on the first stage, making enough space for the second stage. This was a very frustrating opening the first few times I used it, but figured out what worked best.

Great opener! Nice weight to it and great value for the money.

All the five star reviews are no coincidence. Wow was I pleasantly surprised! And I have a number of different corkscrews including Laguioles. The handle is very comfortable in the hand with a soft feel and good grip. The design is elegant. The helix has only three turns so it's much easier to insert and won't puncture the bottom end of the cork. I suspect this will work better on synthetic corks since there's less screw to insert. The magnet held double lever has a much easier snap to and fro than the spring loaded models. A winner at this price.

I'm a Sommelier by trade, and I've used nearly every corkscrew on the market during my career (including the Code 38 and Laguiole). This one is, by far, the best for the money. It's light, balanced, impeccably designed, and I don't have to have an anxiety attack if I let a coworker borrow it (like I have with the Code 38). The screw functions very well on older corks, and the pull tabs are well spaced. The blade is easy to open with one hand. The handle is grippy and secure. Are the Laguiole products prettier? Yes, but this is *better* at actually *opening* the bottles rather than just looking good. Is the Code 38 superior in form and function? Yes, but you'll practically need a second mortgage to buy one, and this is embarrassingly close in practical usage.Simply put: buy it. It's a bargain at twice the price.
